Nick Butter (c) Butter

From the age of 11, Nick Butter has nurtured an interest in pushing himself to the limits of his own physical endurance. His chosen vehicle for this ongoing challenge are his own legs (along with a few other well-connected body parts), which will have helped him complete 300 marathons by the time he appears for us and have taken him on non-stop endurance challenges of ‘easy’ 100 kilometres races up to 350 mile multi-day events.

Nick’s legs have also propelled him around the globe, through the deserts of Morocco on the punishing Marathon Des Sables; pounded him through the streets of Berlin, Barcelona, Helsinki, London, Paris and set him on a mission to grasp his first Guinness World Record Running a marathon in every country in the world. All 196 countries in just 550 days

In 2018, Nick intends to set a new world record by running a marathon in every country in the world, 196 marathons in 550 days. His aim is to raise £250,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. It will take him 18 months to travel to all 196 countries, spending about 2.5 days per country. There will be war zones, the heat of the Sahara and the extreme cold of Antartica. He intends to live simply, camping and sleeping in peoples' homes. He'll be leaving on January 6th, 2018. This talk will be about Nick's experiences to date, about time, courage and failure, about perserverance and determination, how to value the time we have on our planet and about how everyone, regardless of age, background, and commitments can excel at anything they put their minds to. Oh yes, and how he plans to achieve this extraordinary feat.
